Florida’s Leading Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program

The Connections of Florida virtual intensive outpatient program offers care on a digital platform so that individuals can get the well-rounded substance use disorder treatment they need from the comfort of their own homes.

What Is Intensive Outpatient Programming?

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a structured level of care that can be ideal for people who need greater support than that which is offered in traditional outpatient treatment but do not need the 24/7 monitoring or daylong support that is provided in inpatient treatment or partial hospitalization programs (PHPs). IOPs can also serve as a step-down level of care for people who have completed inpatient treatment, residential treatment, or partial hospitalization programming.

In an IOP, patients receive various therapeutic interventions while still being able to live at home. These programs are designed to help people build stronger coping skills and make progress in their recovery while remaining connected with their communities and engaged in their daily routines. Taking part in an IOP can also reduce the risk for relapse or the need to move to an acute level of care.

What Is Virtual IOP?

Virtual intensive outpatient programs offer the same type of personalized, comprehensive treatment from a virtual setting that a person would normally receive in an in-person setting. Patients take part in the same therapies while being in the comfort of their own homes.

There can be any number of factors why someone may not be able to participate in an on-site IOP, including lack of transportation, medical considerations, busy work schedule, lack of child care, or other responsibilities. By offering a virtual program, Connections of Florida is able to remove these barriers, increasing access to care for more people in need.

Virtual IOP Structure

Treatment in Connections of Florida’s virtual IOP is individualized based on each person’s specific needs. The program is structured as a seven-week rotating group-based curriculum. While the program is designed to last seven weeks, the actual length of time a person may spend in the program can vary based on their needs and personalized treatment plan. If someone stays in the program longer than seven weeks, it is appropriate for them to repeat the curriculum.

Within the first three days of admission to the virtual IOP, patients have one individual session, during which they complete a series of assessments so that the team can make sure that this virtual IOP will be the most beneficial treatment option for them.

After admission to the program, patients meet for individual check-ins on a biweekly basis to review and discuss their treatment plans. These check-ins typically last 20-30 minutes and are held outside of group hours. Patients may also have individual sessions as needed if there is a change in symptoms or a need for additional support.

Patients meet four days a week and follow a structured schedule each day consisting of two 90-minute group sessions.
